One of Freemasonry's customs is not to solicit members. However, anyone should feel free to approach any Mason to seek further information about the Craft.
The doors of Freemasonry are open to men who seek harmony with their fellow man, feel the need for self-improvement and wish to participate in making this world a better place to live.
The essential qualification for admission, and continuing membership, is a belief in a Supreme Being. By this we mean that every applicant must profess such a belief but Freemasonry does not define, or impose, a definition of a Supreme Being. Each individual applicant must define that entity for himself. Atheists and Agnostics cannot, therefore, become Freemasons. This belief is absolute and admits of no exceptions. Of course individuals might lie in this respect in order to gain admission and there is little that Freemasons could do to identify such men. All is taken on the honor of the individual concerned. In fact everything that a Freemason does in his private and public life must be honorable and Freemasonry encourages all members to behave in an upright and moral manner. Members are encouraged to support their individual faith by attendance at their Mosque, Church, Chapel etc, but it is not a requirement.
Membership is open to men, 21 years of age or older, of any race or religion
who have a personal belief in a Supreme Being,
who meet the qualifications and standards of character and reputation,
who are of good moral character and reputation,
who desires to become a Mason of "your own free will and accord,"
who has a desire to help others through community service and universal benevolence.
A man who wants to join a lodge must be recommended by members of that lodge. He must understand that his character will be investigated. After approval by the members of the lodge, he will be accepted as an applicant for membership in Freemasonry.
No man is permitted to use his membership to advance his own political, religious or business aims. For this reason Lodges do not allow members to discuss political, religious or business matters. Anyone who persists in doing so is in danger of expulsion. There is no doubt that one of the attractions of Masonic Lodges is the ability of all faiths, creeds and cultures to mix freely knowing that no one is interested in the individual's social position, faith, or politics. This ability to meet with others, of various backgrounds has been one of the mainstays of Freemasonry for centuries. This, unique situation has been described as being: 'the ideal escape from the rat race'.
Any man who becomes a Mason is taught a pattern for living - reverence, morality, kindness, honesty, dependability and compassion. He must be prepared to honor his country, uphold its laws and respect those in authority. He must be prepared to maintain honorable relations with others and be willing to share in Masonic activities.
Follow these steps to become a member:
