Rainbow is open to girls between the ages of 11 and 21, regardless of race, creed, color or national origin. You do not have to be Christian to be a member. You can be assured that the values promoted by Rainbow are strong and basic to many religions.
Many jurisdictions also offer Pledge groups for younger girls who wish to join Rainbow when they turn 11. The age range for Pledges is usually 8-10 year olds, though some jurisdictions allow younger girls to join Pledge groups. Check with your local jurisdiction for specifics about their Pledge program.
To join the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls do the following:
1. Contact the Mother Advisor of the Assembly
2. Mother Advisor will invite you and your parents, for the purpose of meeting the girls and the adult advisors, to
attend upcoming events or service projects
visit the Assembly
3. If you are still interested, then Ask for a petition and fill it out (Remember girls you need parent permission to join!!)
The petition for the degrees is in essence a membership application to join Rainbow.
4. Turn in the petition and you be notified shortly by the Mother Advisor or her representative.
5. Investigation or Information Sharing
Once the Petition is received it must first be reviewed by the Advisory Board, and then by the Assembly. When the Petition is accepted, a committee of three people will visit the prospective member and her parents at their home. The chief purpose of this visit is to provide the parents and the prospective member with more information about Rainbow and to answer any questions.
6. Balloting
Following the Investigation or Information Sharing, Balloting is the next step. Balloting is a traditional ceremony, largely a formality. The fact is only a few have ever been rejected for membership.
7. Initiation
A booklet called "The Journey of Initiation" is available from Supreme Assembly. It is a great help in providing some brief explanations of the principle lessons and teachings of Rainbow. This booklet may be shared with prospective members and their parents.
The Initiation Ceremony is a solemn presentation that impresses an obligation on young women to live a good life and do right. This ceremony is by far one of the most impressive presentations a girl can experience.
Welcome to the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls!!
